RULES AND MECHANICS

1 DESCRIPTION
1.1 The PETRON XTRA UNLEADED ECONOMY RUN 2006 is designed to show how far a well maintained and skillfully-driven vehicle can travel on one full tank of PETRON XTRA UNLEADED gasoline, in varying conditions over a representative selection of Philippine roads (specifically in Luzon). Vehicles will all use PETRON XTRA UNLEADED fuel obtainable from selected normal commercial service stations along the route.
1.2 Starts at Pagudpud (Pasuquin), Ilocos Norte. Ends when all competition vehicles run out of one (1) full tank of fuel, possibly in the Bicol region.
1.3 The preliminary results will be announced at the end of the run as soon as possible after the last vehicle has completed the event.
1.4 Fuel will be supplied free of charge by PETRON CORPORATION for the duration of the event. Competitors are required to report to Pre-Event Scrutineering with the fuel gauge at the 1/4- mark at the very least.
1.5 The organizers reserve the right to amend starting times of competitors, should circumstances warrant such an action.
2 HOW TO JOIN
2.1 Interested participants are to fill out a registration form or via online at www.petronfuelsuccess.com
2.2 Together with their registration forms, motorists must also submit their answers to the question: What are the top ten reasons why we are up for the Xtra Mile Challenge?
2.3 Accomplished registration forms with the accomplished top ten answers must be submitted to: Petron Xtra Mile Challenge, Ace Saatchi & Saatchi 10/F #108 Feliza Bldg. VA Rufino St. Legaspi Village Makati City
2.4 Those qualified for the first round will be announced weekly, via the event website www.petronfuelsuccess.com and partner radio stations DWRT, JAM 88.3, DWTM & K-Lite and DZRH
3 ELIGIBILITY FOR PRE-QUALIFYING ROUND
3.1 Participants must be able to pass the requirements set by the organizers of the run.
3.2 The following are the basic requirements to qualify for the round:
  • Competing vehicles must have 2 team members.
  • Both team members must be in possession of a valid driver’s license and should have been driving for at least 4 years.
  • No outstanding offense or record with MMDA, LTO or the NBI or Police.
  • Both team members must be of good health.
  • All employees of Petron Corp., its advertising agencies, its dealers, the Petron Xtra Miles challenge organizers and their relatives of up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity are disqualified to join the run.
3.3 Other detailed requirements for vehicle to be used for the run are as follows:
ELIGIBLE VEHICLES
  • Only vehicles manufactured from 1990 onwards with engine displacements of up to 1600 cc and are unleaded gasoline-driven engines will be accepted, provided they seat a minimum of 4 people.
  • Vehicles must comply with their respective manufacturers’ handbooks with the latitudes, limitations and requirements as specifically listed hereunder.
  • When accepting entries, the organizers will give preference to quantity production vehicles having detailed specifications which exactly represent the models as supplied or imported by the official Philippine manufacturer or distributor, with no modifications, deletions or additions which could materially affect their performance other than allowed in these Rules.
4 WINNERS OF THE PRE-QUALIFYING ROUND
4.1 Winners of the pre-qualifying round of the Petron Xtra Mile Challenge will be determined by a panel of judges formed by Petron Corp. out of the qualified entries, six (6) teams will be chosen to represent the areas of North Luzon (1 team), South Luzon (1 team), Metro Manila (2 teams), Visayas (1 team) and Mindanao (1 team).
4.2 Participants will be judged on their answers for the question “What are the top ten reasons why we are up for the Xtra Mile Challenge?” as well as an interview.
4.3 Upon selection and acceptance as an Official Entry in the competition, there will be a P30,000 cash incentive for the team. For the Visayas / Mindanao entries: round-trip transportation costs (including cargo charges for the competition vehicle) will be provided.
5 PRE-START REQUIREMENTS
5.1 All winning teams of the pre-qualifying round must undergo a briefing/orientation under the tutelage of the SRA team
5.2 Each qualified team must have passed the inspection of their vehicles by designated experts (members of motoring organizations Automobile Association Philippines and Car Awards Group, Inc.)
5.3 Competition numbers and advertising material must be fixed to the vehicles as determined by the organizers. No advertising material conflicting with the products of PETRON CORPORATION and other Event Sponsors may be displayed.
5.4 Each competition vehicle must have a regulation spare tire, tool kit, and early warning device. These may be transferred to the assigned support vehicle at the start of the official run.
6 Petron Xtra Mile Challenge Run Proper
6.1 All six (6) teams will kick off at the same point at the Petron service station in Pagudpud (Pasuquin) and will travel the designated routes with scheduled stops until all teams reach the target destination of Casiguran, Sorsogon,  Bicol (should fuel consumption permit).
6.2 Each Vehicle will be filled at the start of the Event by an Official Refueller.
6.3 At the kick off, all vehicles that have been tested road-worthy and inspected will be filled with one full tank of Petron Xtra Unleaded. Then all gas tanks will be sealed in the presence of third party observers and all odometers will be set at 0.
6.4 The team that has gone furthest will be declared the winner and subsequent distance records will also determine whom the second and third place winners are. If records show that a team has broken the record of 1,114 kilometers on one full tank, this team will be awarded a bonus cash prize.
6.5 All winners declared by Petron Corp, the run organizers and the third party observers are final.
7 Xtra Mile Challenge Run Proper General Guide Lines
7.1 Competitors are advised that the route and times will be set to meet the stated purpose of the event. There should therefore be no necessity for competitive driving or navigating, other than for the purpose of good fuel consumption.
7.2 All fuelling will be done in the presence of a Judge of Fact.
7.3 Participants are advised to take the necessary health precautions during the event.
7.4 For safety reasons, drivers are not allowed to use their mobile phones for making/receiving calls or texting while driving. If necessary, this should be done by the co-driver. Failure to comply may be cause for disqualification.
8 Cash Prizes
8.1 The winning team with the farthest distance will get a cash prize of: P100,000.00
8.2 The winning team with the 2nd farthest distance will get a cash prize of: P75,000.00
8.3 The winning team with the 3rd farthest distance will get a cash prize of: P50,000.00
8.4 The record breaker/s will get an additional cash prize of P20,000.00
8.5 All record breaker/s will also get Xtra Unleaded gift certificates amounting to P15,000.00.
