Set a new record!
Petron opens Xtra Mile Challenge Media Edition
Challenging media practitioners to “set a new record,” Petron recently announced the Media
Edition of its marathon econo-run, the Xtra Mile Challenge. On the line is the record set last
June by Team Zayco Hermanos, who drove 1,400.4-kilometers on one full tank of Petron Xtra
Unleaded.
Petron advertising and promotions manager Charmaine Canillas announced the event at a
media party held last November 28. Open to all media practitioners with a national reach or
audience, the Xtra Mile Challenge - Media Edition will field 10 media teams to run the entire
length of Luzon from Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte to Matnog in Sorsogon on just one full-tank of
Petron Xtra Unleaded.
During the announcement, Ms. Canillas noted that, “When Pocholo Ramirez first set the
record by driving 1,114-kilometers on one full tank in 2005, he inspired everyday motorists and
we received a lot of fuel success stories attesting to the improved mileage that they got from our
Xtra Unleaded gasoline.
Their testimonials emboldened us to re-stage the Xtra Mile Challenge with six teams of
everyday motorists who had to undergo a competitive screening process. All six teams broke
Mr. Ramirez’s record, a feat made possible by the excellent combination of a good car, excellent
driving discipline, and superior fuel performance.
Now, we are once again putting our Petron Xtra Unleaded on the line, by challenging the
media to set a new record on Philippine road and driving conditions.”
The Petron Xtra Mile Challenge Media Edition is slated to run in January 2007.
