Petron
Supports Amorsolo Retrospective

posted 10 October 2008

Oil industry leader Petron Corporation is continuing its drive to support Philippine art and culture by participating in the Amorsolo Retrospective, the latest initiative in the local art scene which promotes the works of Fernando Amorsolo as a reflection of the unique Filipino spirit. Themed “His Art, Our Heart,” the Amorsolo Retrospective, will be holding a four-month, multi-venue exhibit showcasing Fernando Amorsolo’s finest works and masterpieces.

Petron supports the Amorsolo Retrospective. (L-R) Olivia Campo, CRIBS Foundation president; Evelyn Lim-Forbes, Amorsolo Retrospective executive director; Joselito de Jesus, Petron general manager for marketing services; Doris Magsaysay-Ho, Amorsolo Retrospective advisory committee member; and Charmaine Canillas, Petron advertising & promotions director.

Christened in honor of Fernando Amorsolo, the very first Filipino National Artist, the Amorsolo Retrospective believes that Amorsolo’s works reflect the best of Filipino values – our bayanihan spirit, celebratory nature, colorful culture, innate creativity and patriotism. Through an appreciation of Amorsolo’s best paintings, illustrations, sketches and drawings, the movement aims to make every Filipino understand culture and art as relevant to the development of our national identity. At a time when globalization is blurring boundaries between people and countries, Amorsolo Retrospective pins the true sense of Filipino identity, ideals and culture on the artistic renderings of Fernando Amorsolo.

“Petron’s support for the Amorsolo Retrospective stems from our company’s relentless drive to support and promote Philippine culture and art,” notes Charmaine Canillas, advertising and promotions director for Petron Corporation. “Fresh from our recently concluded ArtPetron 8, Petron’s participation in the Amorsolo Retrospective is the next big step for us in instilling in the Filipino people, especially the youth, nationalistic pride and identity through artistic expression.”

The beneficiaries from this program are CRIBS Foundation, Inc., Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation, Inc. and the participating museums that will host the exhibits for the Amorsolo Retrospective.
