Petron’s new Xtra Unleaded fuel was able to power a Honda Jazz 1.3 MT from Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte all the way down to Casiguran, Sorsogon – a distance of over 1,100 kilometers – on just one full tank of gasoline. This was accomplished in an endurance fuel economy run held last March 31 to April 1, 2005.

Using two Honda Jazz 1.3 manual transmission units as the official vehicles, Petron organized the run to prove that one full tank of its new Xtra Unleaded gasoline would be able to power a vehicle through the entire stretch of Luzon. With legendary race car driver Pocholo Ramirez and son Louis Ramirez at the helm of the two cars, both were able to achieve runs of over 1,000-kilometers.

Taking off from the Petron station just outside Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, the first leg of the two-day run passed through the northern half of Luzon, across Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, and Tarlac, stopping at San Fernando, Pampanga for a break. Traveling almost non-stop for 9 hours, with only brief bathroom breaks, the cars covered 494-kilometers on the first half of its odyssey.

The second and final leg of the Petron Xtra Unleaded economy run crossed Metro Manila and proceeded through southern Luzon, traversing the North Luzon Expressway across Metro Manila, then on to the South Superhighway before going on to Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Sur, Albay and eventually running out of steam in Sorsogon.

The unit driven by Louis Ramirez stopped at Bgy. Tabontabon in Daraga, Albay, after having logged some 1,048.8-kilometers. The second unit, driven by Pocholo Ramirez, reached Casiguran, Sorsogon, with a total distance of 1,113.9-kilometers. Riding shotgun on the official cars were Aldo Fernandez and Sheila Ramirez.

The economy run, which showcased not only the extra mileage power of Petron’s Xtra Unleaded gasoline, was also a testament to the driving skill and staying power of 72-year old Pocholo Ramirez, who had the stamina to drive for over 14-hours non-stop on the final leg (except for a 30-minute section when he allowed co-driver Aldo Fernandez to take over).

Ensuring the veracity of the Petron Xtra Unleaded Fuel Economy Run were Dennis Lopez, official observer from Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP); motoring journalists Aris Ilagan and Bam Olivarez from the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI). Both organizations observed the event and certified the results of the fuel economy run. Also present were representatives from Petron Corporation and its ad agency Ace, Saatchi & Saatchi. Organizing the event was ADBM Resources with support drivers and marshalls from Applied Leisure in Sales & Operations (ALSO). Throughout the entire length of Luzon, the Philippine National Police under the direction of Gen. Arturo Lomibao monitored the safe passage of the vehicles.

The New Petron Xtra Unleaded
An environment-friendly, premium motor gasoline recommended for high-compression engines, the new Petron Xtra Unleaded contains a high-performance detergent additive that provides excellent engine cleaning effect, ensuring optimum vehicle performance, and a unique catalyst that ‘conditions’ the fuel, promoting more efficient combustion and lower fuel consumption.

Petron was the first to use a fully synthetic detergent additive in gasoline – XCS. Since its introduction in 1996, enhancements have been introduced to meet the more stringent OEM performance requirements and government regulations.

A unique additive that promotes better fuel economy
The new Petron Xtra Unleaded contains a unique additive that promotes more complete combustion. The additive acts as a fuel conditioner that creates a catalytic reaction, which accelerates further fuel evaporation from the fuel droplet and breaking down of long molecular chains. This enables more oxygen to combine with the carbon molecules, thus producing a complete burn of the fuel. One of the major benefits of more complete combustion is reduced fuel consumption.

On the average, an improvement of 6-9% in fuel efficiency was observed at slow to medium speed (1100-2000rpm) typical of city-driving conditions.

Excellent detergency that promotes cleaner engine Another major benefit of complete combustion is a cleaner engine and, thus, reduced maintenance problems. Petron Xtra Unleaded contains a detergent package that has been widely proven in extensive detergency tests.

For instance, the new Petron Xtra Unleaded has been proven effective in the control of port fuel injector deposits, and provides improved protection against formation of intake valve deposits as well as removal of existing deposits. The detergent action results in improved emissions and fuel economy.

The new Petron Xtra Unleaded, with its enhanced detergent additive and gas-saving additive packages, offers the following benefits: Superior combustion for cleaner engine and better vehicle performance, and improved fuel economy for extra mileage.

Good to the Very Last Drop: Racing legend Pocholo Ramirez drives a Honda Jazz for 1,114 kilometers on one full tank of Petron Xtra

www.manilatimes.net

CAR companies have long been sponsoring fuel-economy drives to showcase the fuel efficiency of their vehicles. They do this by pitting customers against each other using the same vehicle models, asking them to drive a certain distance, and then measuring each participant’s fuel consumption at the designated finish line.

A couple of months ago, Petron—in preparation for the launch of an all-new fuel product—went a step further by asking Philippine racing legend Pocholo Ramirez to drive a 1.3-liter Honda Jazz with manual transmission non-stop until he consumed its full tank of Petron’s latest fuel, the Xtra Unleaded gasoline.

Petron’s new Xtra Unleaded powered the Jazz from Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte all the way down to Casiguran, Sorsogon—a distance of over 1,100 kilometers—on just one full tank of gasoline. This was accomplished in an endurance fuel economy run held from March 31 to April 1.

The new fuel product contains gas-saving boosters that promote more efficient combustion resulting in lower fuel consumption. It is very environment friendly, being the only locally refined gasoline that complies with the stringent Euro IV emission standards. The new Xtra Unleaded is processed with the new naphtha isomerization unit at Petron’s Bataan refinery, the first and only one in the Philippines.

Using two Honda Jazz 1.3-liter manual-transmission units as official vehicles, Petron organized the run to prove that one full tank of its new Xtra Unleaded gasoline would be able to power a vehicle through the entire stretch of Luzon. With Pocholo Ramirez and son Louis at the wheel of the two cars, both were able to achieve runs of over 1,000 kilometers.

The unit driven by Louis stopped in Bgy. Tabontabon in Daraga, Albay, after having logged some 1,048.8 kilometers. The second unit, driven by Pocholo, reached Casiguran, Sorsogon, with a total distance of 1,113.9 kilometers.

Taking off from the Petron station just outside Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, the first leg of the two-day run passed through the northern half of Luzon, across Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, and Tarlac, stopping in San Fernando, Pampanga, for a break. Traveling almost non-stop for nine hours, with only brief bathroom breaks, the cars covered 494¬ kilometers on the first half of their odyssey.

The second and final leg of the Petron Xtra Unleaded economy run crossed Metro Manila and proceeded through southern Luzon, traversing Edsa and on to South Superhighway before proceeding to Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Sur, Albay and finally in Sorsogon where the full tank was totally consumed.

The results were verified by Automobile Association Philippines, the country’s chief motoring organization. So next time you see the TV ads or hear the radio commercials, you can stop raising your eyebrow: The feat was for real.

Petron Launches New Xtra Unleaded Gasoline

www.autoindustriya.com

The popular Marvel comics known as The X-Men were people endowed with inborn powers. In this regard, Petron’s newly launched unleaded gasoline (billed as Petron Xtra Unleaded) has inborn powers lacking in other unleaded gasolines.

For starters, one must know that Petron Xtra Unleaded is an environment-friendly, premium motor gasoline recommended for high compression engines, such as for vehicles toting displacements of 2.5 liters and below. Known previously as Petron Unleaded, this new unleaded gasoline is improved and reformulated; with high-performance additives that provide excellent engine cleaning and a unique catalyst that “conditions” the fuel, according to Petron. This ensures optimum vehicle performance, promoting more efficient combustions and better fuel consumption.

But what exactly are the powers of Xtra Unleaded?
One of Xtra Unleaded’s abilities is its knack for becoming environment-friendly, thanks to a light virgin naphtha isomerization process (the first and only in the country) that lowers aromatics and benzene content. This makes Xtra Unleaded comply with the Clean Air Act as well as stringent Euro IV emission standards.

Xtra Unleaded also features gas saving boosters that promote a more complete combustion for better fuel economy. These boosters act as fuel conditioners which create a catalytic reaction and enable more oxygen to combine with carbon molecules, essential for a more complete burn within the piston walls. Also, these boosters make this unleaded gasoline burn longer with more uniformity, thus maximizing engine power.

Lastly, Xtra Unleaded features an excellent detergent package that provides protections against formation of intake valve deposits and allows for removal of existing engine deposits, which results in improved emissions and fuel economy.

Testing Xtra Unleaded’s x-factors
In order to find out the fuel efficiency of Xtra Unleaded, Petron, along with legendary race car driver Pocholo Ramirez and son Louis and members of the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) and the Car of the Year Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI) conducted a fuel economy run last March 30-April 2, 2005. At the starting point at the Petron Bangui-Ilocos Norte (at the outskirts of Pagudpud) station, two Honda Jazz 1.3-liter manual transmission units (one driven by Pocholo Ramirez and the other driven by Louis Ramirez) were filled with Xtra Unleaded to the brim. The cars were to be driven in normal driving conditions until the cars literally spluttered to halt due to lack of fuel for two days.

The Honda Jazz of Louis Ramirez stopped at Bgy. Tabontabon in Daraga, Albay, with 1,048.8 kilometers logged on the odometer. In contrast, Pocholo Ramirez’ Jazz reached Casiguran, Sorsogon, with 1,113.9 kilometer logged on the odometer. The test showed that Petron’s Xtra Unleaded truly has powers not seen in other unleaded gasolines.
